Data Technologies Lead

      Contracting firms, Data Management experts.

    As part of the global IT strategy, The Data Management department is a looking for a Data Technologies Lead to be part of the team that designs and leads the new big data systems of the enterprise.


    You will be joining the Global IT Management team reporting to the data Management Architecture Sr. Manager. You’ll be interacting internally with Data Management development teams, Group Infrastructure teams, and the whole IT community. You will be taking part of various projects and work independently on others.


    Your role will help the team by testing, analyzing and evaluating new big data and digital technologies in the marketplace, both open source and commercial. You will help our Data Architects decide on the best technologies to evolve by evaluating technical maturity, fitness in our environment, business suitability, and other parameters. You will execute Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs), build pilots, and guide project teams to put in place selected technologies. Your hands-on creativity, will help the team to solve problems by developing automated solutions to integrate applications and automate tasks.

    Houston, TX
    Must have:
    • 3+ years of professional active, hands-on experience using Java with Hadoop and related technologies.
    • 5+ years of experience using Linux systems (scripting, set up, and overall knowledge of the various packages/tools).
    • Demonstrated experience using Amazon cloud environment
    • Ability to work independently and solve problems using Open source technologies
    • Creative, eager to learn, with a can-do mentality.
    • Experience using Hadoop environments in the cloud (Horton Works is a plus).
    • Working experience in AWS API scripts, and building automated tasks.
    • Proven analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
    • Solid oral and written communication skills in English.
    • Team spirit with a delivery/results-driven mindset.
    Nice to have:
    • Energy Industry background/experience.
    • Working experience with Python and bash scripting.
    • Experience with API management systems.
    • Ability to speak, read and write in French a plus.
    Mission and
    responsibilities:

    Is accountable for the technical evolution of the infrastructure by:

    • Ensuring that we adopt the most appropriate technologies in our environment;
    • Keeping the team aware of the state of the art in Big Data and Data Science;
    • Adopting on a case by case basis new tools to improve our efficiency.


    Is responsible for evaluating new technologies by:

    • Performing Proof-Of-Concept (PoC) scenarios to test technical readiness;
    • Assessing cost and benefits of new technologies;
    • Providing technical feasibility of the implementation of new technologies in our infrastructure.


    Assists other Data Management team members on design of data management systems and best practices


    Responsible for continuous improvement in our data architecture:

    • Stay informed of vendor offerings to reduce our costs, become more competitive and maximize use of technologies for the business;
    • Help identify areas of improvement using new technologies and potential migration paths to reduce our costs;
    • Promote the Data Management solutions within the organization;
    • Create and maintain a set of standards and best practices for executing PoCs and evaluating new big data technologies.
